I dont' see what the big deal is. If the man wants to have RGP.M created let him. RGP will still exist. You won't have to post over at RGP.M and you can still read all the off topic, personal attacks, spam, p0rn on RGP.
I've been posting and lurking in rec.gambling as long as anybody. Pre-internet by UUCP feed from seismo and uu.net. In the beginning it was rec.gambling. As that grew and grew it splintered into the rec.gambling.* hierarchy. Then rec.gambling.blackjack.moderated came about for the very same reasons that rec.gambling.poker.moderated was suggested. If I gave you my real name, you could search and google it and find that I voted for the split and for the creation of R.G.P. Now I throw my support to R.G.P.M (actually I've advocated R.G.P.M for years, just didnt' want to be the moderator).

This group, R.G.P has deviated from what it is supposed to be into R.G.P.P, rec.gambling.poker.politics. There are still very interesting topics here to read, but in general there is still alot of trash, flames, redundant posts, forgeries, advertising and the like.

The moderators are not going to make money. Unless of course they are being payed to squelch so-and-so's online poker is cheating or rigged ... stuff like that. Moderation gets old pretty fast in fact and most moderated groups simply die due to lack of interest/content without harming the root group.
In any event. He doesn't really need a majority vote. Just a strong showing of interest in a R.G.P.M. If the voting shows a strong interest and the charter is in order and moderators are set, I'll send out the control message myself (I got da juice).

So basicly, if RGPM wins the vote it gets created. If RGPM looses, but in your opinion has a strong showing it get created.

Is this attitude typical amongst those that support moderation? Create rules and procedures, follow the rules and procedures; unless they are disadvantageous, then break them because you can.

Not quite. If there is enough interest to support a group, the people showing the interest can have that group. Usenet has always been this way.

People who know how Usenet works have taken charge now, and there's probably no stopping it.

Which is exactly how it should be. Those who are trying to stop RGPM because it censorship are themselves engaging in censorship!

Just get the thing created and get posts about it off of this group.

Not exactly. The way I understand it, those ARE the rules and procedures a strong showing of interest is sufficient. The proponents of RGPM seem to be following all the required protocol quite precisely.

The Truth:
That is because it is a well-organized effort funded and supported by a powerful Poker magazine publisher.
RichM sure had that RFD ready in a hurry didn't he? Just hours after Peg Smith told RichM to go ahead and do something about a moderated forum, he published an RFD on RGP.
