Another Blatant LieThis is a discussion thread · 27 replies Mason: [nq:1]To answer you specifically..10 groups of 72000 tosses per group showed the following results. One group hit 12,000 sevens right on the schnozzola, the other 9 groups ranged from a high 12,148 sevens and a low of 11,796 sevens.[/nq]I believe this claim to be another blatant and flagrant lie. Professor Strategy has absolutely no inkling about the chances of finding exactly 12,000 rolls of seven in a set of 72,000 rolls. He has absolutely no understanding of the implications of "Bernoulli's Theorem" better known as the Law of Large Numbers. Recent attempts at explaining the basic premise of this 300 year old discovery and its specific implications for games of chance toProfessor Strategy failed miserably. So, Professor Strategy decides that numbers are required and those numbers can easily be fabricated to support his beliefs and give his arguments authority. He casually constructs a set of simulation runs from whole cloth purported to be the product of an unspecified simulator that has magically and suddenly appeared in his possession. Basicstrategy777 further believes that the fabricated numbers will be more difficult to detect that his previous blatant and flagrant lie ... [nq:1]Alan... I have taught the game for several years at a local community college ( non-credit night course). I don't teach systems, I don't teach dice setting, I only want the student to learn the game and all aspects of it.[/nq] Basicstrategy777 could not be more wrong in his evident belief that this latest lie is less obvious. This new prevarication is absolutely glaring and pathetically artless. The chance that he is, in fact, a professor of craps at a community college is astronomically greater than the chance that any group of ten simulations of 72000 craps rolls will by some fortunate happenstance contain the exact figureof 12,000 rolls. This exactitude is precisely what this innumerate schlub intuits is the most common result, so he craftily makes sure that his latest fabrication includes it. He throws in some wild variance figures, et viola!, he has manufactured "support" for his assertions. Basicstrategy777 is lying again. Couple his demonstrated lack of character with his express attitude toward Usenet etiquette ... [nq:1]"I'll write what I want, how I want. My style is my style. It is more important to be understood than be precise. Your pedantic snivelling is pathetic. You don't like what I say or how I say it..tough. Don't read it. Don't respond."[/nq] And I have decided to dispatch him to my killfile. Your results may vary, of course. Each reader of Usenet groups decides for himself regarding what is worth his expenditure of time, effort, and interest. Each of you will take Basicstrategy777 as you find him. I find him to be flagrantly dishonest, aggressively discourteous, and dumber than a box of rocks. Onward thru the fog, Mason

ACDOC: I've decided:Even though I don't agree with 777, I find his alleged transgressions forgivable. Trolls like Mason, and the other usual suspects, I find to be not only laughably pathetic, but also bothersome pests. They aren't here to talk about Craps. They simply repeat the same pedantic drivle about probability without end. The "Killfile" threat is an anachronistic joke that's on the usual suspects. Many of us have real emails and read rgc through google groups. Shoo trolls, shoo... You are a running joke in the online craps world, but are too pathetic to know it. I'd rather have more members like 777, etc. than the "usual suspects". His heart is in the right place. Your "hearts" are another matter. Your beliefs about Craps belong to your "twisted cult" alone. PS-I still think it's the same kook posting under multiple handles. That many different Crapsters can't all be such assholes.

To The Killfile (lots of rationale deleted)[nq:1]And I have decided to dispatch him to my killfile. Your results may vary, of course. Each reader of Usenet ... as you find him. I find him to be flagrantly dishonest, aggressively discourteous, and dumber than a box of rocks.[/nq] I applaud your stance in placing the Professor in your kill filter. I am confused that you now consider him "dumber than a box of rocks." So is the Professor dumber than a bag of hammers or dumber than a box of rocks? One needs to be specific. :-)

Clams Canino: [nq:1]Even though I don't agree with 777, I find his alleged transgressions forgivable.[/nq]Why? He's shown a basic disregard for usenet posting standards - and then reacted like a child when it's pointed out to him that he needs to properly quote text. Even you can quote text. The fact tha't you don't agree with him, and yet still side with him - is quite telling. Seems to me that the squirrils all stick together is all. [nq:1]Trolls like Mason, and the other usual suspects, I find to be not only laughably pathetic, but also bothersome pests. They aren't here to talk about Craps. They simply repeat the same pedantic drivle about probability without end.[/nq] Mason is not a troll (a word you continually mis-apply). Mason has a position. His position is that no amount of twaddle changes the math of a dice game as simple as craps. I agree. There is no "solution" for beating craps. The game is real simple, the house has about a 1.4 percent edge - and you'll win if you're lucky and lose if you aren't. It really IS that simple. All the rest of the things we do to the game are for fun, sport, or experiment. Nothing wrong with that until you claim to have found some "winning method". -W

Mason: In my opinion, Basicstrategy777 should aspire to attain the cognitive level of the box of rocks.Like that Browning fellow said, Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for? Onward thru the fog, Mason

So, someone's bitching and moaning about quotes and etiquette, but then insults a member. There is something really wrong with you characters. Trolls, sockpuppets, & killfiles.

winnah 5: This is as close to a perfect summary as I've seen so far.The game is indeed very simple, as is the math. When I first played craps, I was "taught" all the superstitions by the veterans. At the time, I thought that these guys with so much experience must know the "winning secrets" to the game. That if the dice fly off the table, the next roll will be a Seven; that if 6 rolls have gone by without a Seven, then the Seven is due; Stick change will bring a Seven, as will new money...the list goes on and on. Quickly though, I realize how "unreliable" these superstitions really are. If I wanted to be a better player, I needed to unlearn all the BS. Yes, I still find all the superstitions amusing, and I am not afraid to make hunch bets. But never will I think that I've gained an edge in the game from the years of experience I've played since. If anything, the years of experience and observations have confirmed one thing: that craps is a game of chance, that there is absolutely no way to increase or decrease the chance of a Seven (or any number for that matter) from rolling...unless one cheats. Experience may have a positive impact on everything else in life but at the craps table, it can be detrimental if one's not careful. Like it or not, good fortune is the only necessary ingredient in winning. winnah 5
