Why do Sportsbooks offer such betting?

I suppose the main objective of the sportsbook is to offer as many opportunities for punters to have a bet. They keep relatively low liability limits for special bets such as 'weather betting' however if they can get a new customer through the doors with such markets they are delighted to do so.

I think Ladbrokes won millions last christmas day because it didn't snow.

Novelty bets appeal to a VERY large market.

Pretty much any of the big bookies will give you odds on anything you want to bet on. It's all part of their game too.

What's the most obscure betting market you have heard of?

Oooh, there are some really crazy ones out there, but perhaps one of the most weird and at the same time heart warming, was a British guy who was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Doctors gave him something like 6 months to live and he put a bet down that he'd be around...hang on, let me see if I can find the article...(goes to Google...)

Here's a link: Daily Telegraph

Betting on your own life may not be a first, but this is certainly one that hit the news for the 'obscure factor'!

I bet it will rain somewhere in the world tomorrow!

Seriously though, this is a large market at christmas time with a lot of money spent every year.

The funniest bet I ever saw was whether Elvis would return (in real life) and have a number one hit in the charts.

If you go to the band club bar in Birgu you would see guys betting on everything,

the usual is which fly will fly off the table first and if a guy or a girl would walk in nex and what they would drink....

pity these guys are not literate enough to use a pc as it wouild be a market in its own right....

LOL
