RazzO:
I was standing near Johnny Chan when Phil Hellmuth, Jr. stopped him from winning his third straight WSOP championship title. To this day I feel it's the greatest feat in poker. Now I watch the 2004 WSOP tonight and hear Norman Chad say that the Dan Harrington's back-to-back Final Tables with the large fields is 'the greatest feat in poker'. Hmm... Of course Dan gets my total respect...but is this true?

With the sizes of the fields today you have to go through a lot more players just to make the final table than you did to make the final table back then. Also, there are more capable poker players now, some of course are terrible, but with 2500 people theres plenty of good to great players out there. My vote goes to harrington.

I don't care for Norm Chad, but I must admit he has a point with that statement. Its an argument for sure.

I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

Well, let's see. Phil knocked out Johnny Chan in ONE tournament. Dan Harrington has made how many final tables at the WSOP? 7?, 8?, 9? All you have to do is do the math and you'll see that Harringtons feat is definitely one of the most difficult to pull off, given the amount of people he has to get by EACH and EVERY time. At least that's my opinion, which is all it really is..
...an opinion.

It's true. Norman Chad did in fact say it.
It's an opinion.
You can make a fair argument that in an era when the "name" pros were bitching about the luck factor being too high with all the "amateur" players in the event, Harrington's back to back final tables is a rebuke to players who couldn't adjust and a stunning achievement.

Not that Johnny's 1-1-2 finishes is anything to sneeze at.

That's not what he said. He said it's "ARGUABLY the greatest feat in poker"

Well, he did technically say 'the greatest feat in poker' too.

Fatal Error:
the single greatest moment has yet to come, phil hellmuth will fold AA on the flop of KKA to a single reraise, because the guy might have KK and he does'nt want to go broke, he'll find bigger edges than that

Dan Harrington was the ONLY player that was shown to a large extent in
2003 and 2004. Most of the WSOP viewers have no idea about past WSOPs,except what they are told during the 2003 and 2004 broadcasts. ESPN also wants to 'outdo' 2003, and in order to do this, they use words like 'greatest', and 'best.' As to whether or not he is correct, I don't want to think about it.
