SiGNAL 2009 Malta Cancelled
What SiGNAL? Although Malta did admirably to avoid severe impact from the global recession for a period of time, inevitably it has landed upon the island’s shore and has rippled throughout practically every industry. Evidence of this wide-ranging effect is front and center as Malta’s forthcoming signature event of the igaming industry, SiGNAL 2009 at the elegant InterContinental in St. Julian’s, sponsored by Clarion Gaming for May 19-21 st , has been cancelled. SiGNAL, the sobriquet for The Summer iGaming Networking and Learning event, which according to a Clarion representative had received tremendous feedback from companies prepared to get behind and support it, had lost traction among the igaming community and service branches due to gloomy economic concerns. It seems that many felt the registration fee ranging from €200-550 for three days would be too hefty of an investment with such fiduciary uncertainty lying ahead. Clarion Gaming, the producers of the International Casino Exhibition (ICE/ICEi), World Poker Congress and the Asian i-Gaming Congress (AiG), among others, weighed heavily whether to cancel the event but regrettably had no other decision in the end. It remains unclear whether there will be any re-scheduling for later this year or next. Touted as an informal, relaxing session for potential partners to meet, greet and spend time in the glorious Maltese climate it claimed to be more outdoor patio than conference room. Its key focuses were on free form exhibition space, liberalised, small group discussion formats selected by participants, informative sessions on customer retention and KYC, site visits to locally based companies and the requisite lunches and parties. The line-up of speakers was to include Betfair European Head of Compliance Roger Parkes, founder and CEO of egaming 2.0 Alex Czajkowski, former Lotteries and Gaming CEO and current CEO of Random Consulting Mario Galea, Income Access CEO Nicky Senyard, AliQuantum Gaming - Malta’s Marc Wood, CSB Group’s Roger Strickland Jr. and CEO of Pentasia iGaming Recruitment Rob Dowling, among others. Further information will be announced today from Clarion.
