RE: Hellmuth article in cardplayer obnoxious! page 4This is a discussion thread · 56 replies Craig Franck: [nq:1]As a sometimes CardPlayer columnist myself, I have to disagree with your post. There's nothing stunning about Phil's column being ... news or sporting event. He's a columnist. A column is supposed to reflect the personality and beliefsf of the author.[/nq]It strikes me as unfair. What was the point of the column? Phil sets Toto up to overplay his hand against him. He does, it backfires, and now Phil berates Toto in his column. I learned nothing about poker other than Phil has an astonishing sense of entitlement when it comes to poker tournaments and he thinks Toto is a reckless player. [nq:1]Phil's column is a must read. I turn to it first or second every issue (Daniel's column and Roy Cooke's are my other must reads). These guys give the most honest and revealing looks at life as a poker pro extant.[/nq] I read Phil's column too, and I said it had some merit as a rant. But from an intellectual point of view, do you think it's possible to win a major tournament without going all in and getting lucky by either holding onto an advantage or drawing out? I remember reading that when Chris Ferguson won the WSOP in 2000, there were a dozen instances when he was all-in in a pair vs. overcards situation and came out on top. [nq:1]Any reader with a shred of intelligence can apply a filter and instantly know what part of a PHJ column is tantrum, what part is poker analysis, and what part is straight fact.[/nq] It should at least be logically consistent. He had two chances to bust Toto and folded. He didn't deserve to win. I suppose I wouldn't have had as strong a reaction as I did if he didn't mention Toto by name. Craig Franck Cortland, NY

Daniel Negreanu: [nq:2]"Case in point" Daniel Negreanu says Toto played Phil like a fiddle ((( PLEASE )))[/nq][nq:1]Phil is associated with Ultimate Bet. Danny used to be then he was offered a deal that he didn't think was worthy of him and he parted company with Ultimate Bet.[/nq] There is absolutely ZERO truth to this. A total fairly tale. Ever since then he bad mouths anyone associated with them [nq:1]whenever he gets a chance.[/nq] Again, that's not true at all? Have I badmouthed DevilFish ever? Or said anything negative about Jack McClelland? Daniel Negreanu www.fullcontactpoker.com

Daniel Negreanu: [nq:1]Danny, How come you backed out from playing Gary Carson?[/nq]I didn't. He wanted to have the event filmed and I refused to play villian in his attempt to sell his book. He never came up with the money, and there was no longer any reason to waste my time. I'd still play him, but I'm not going to waste a lot of energy trying to "iron out the details". Daniel Negreanu: [nq:2]As for my record in the PokerStars big tournies, you are right! My record does stink! Which was to mean what exactly? :-)[/nq][nq:1]Which means get your act together and win one of those things. Alright?![/nq] To be honest, it's not always me playing them and when I do, I find it very difficult to take it seriously. I'm usually watching football on Sundays and often just give up on the tournaments out of boredome. I'm not proud of that, it's just the truth. When I play in the 100-200 gam though, I'm usually prepared to take the game seriously and my record there better than I would have expected. Daniel Negreanu www.fullcontactpoker.com

Or are you just treating Danny as unfairly as you do Mason. Seems to be a gift you have. Vince

Ikke: Hi,Can you please be a bit more specific? What did they do and who are involved that you dont like? I'm asking this because I've no account at UB yet, but thought about playing there 1M tourney. Thanks.

Michael Catalani: [nq:1]What does this have to do with anything![/nq]Nothing if all you want to do is *** about UB. Maybe you should be more clear about what you are talking about. [nq:1]I am talking about the 2002 Aruba.[/nq] What part?? The part about being split into an amateur bracket vs pro bracket? Hellmuth making the final pro table? The fact that the event was pretty much a freeroll? Or the fact it's UB and you just want to ***. [nq:1]Placing Phil anywhere has nothing to do with what I am talking about.[/nq] We have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe in your rant you could be even more vague for us. [nq:1]As far as him getting moved to a table with Phil I. and Howard, maybe he did not want to sit what he may consider low life want to be players.[/nq] I am sure that is it. Although if that was the case, Phil would have a problem sitting at any table. [nq:1]I for one would never put a dime on UB because of some of the people involved with the site![/nq] Which ones? Why? Because they wont allow you to be a member of team UB? Because they removed your chat feature? Or simply because you lose your ass on the site?

Paul Phillips: [nq:1]What part?? The part about being split into an amateur bracket vs pro bracket? Hellmuth making the final pro table?[/nq]Hellmuth "made" the "final" pro table? How about Hellmuth was "placed at" the "only" "pro" table because he was one of those willing to pretend to be playing for $250K when he was actually playing for $0. [nq:1]We have no idea what you are talking about.[/nq] Who is this we? I know exactly what he's talking about. It has been covered extensively here on rgp. [nq:2]I for one would never put a dime on UB because of some of the people involved with the site![/nq] [nq:1]Which ones? Why? Because they wont allow you to be a member of team UB? Because they removed your chat feature? Or simply because you lose your ass on the site?[/nq] How about because they've been very dishonest? Is that a good enough reason not to play there? Or have personal vendettas become the only reason anyone does anything anymore? I skipped the WPT Aruba event because of UB's dishonesty, which they have never admitted and therefore never come close to rectifying. And I wouldn't dream of playing at their site, for the same reason. Paul Phillips > These are the climbs that try men's soles.
