Luck for me, there is no way that you can aim for the hole itself. Players just try to get as close as they can to the hole and a hole in one is a freak bonus.

According to USHoleInOne.com, which insures hole-in-one contests, the odds of getting a hole in one on a par-3 are 12,500 to 1 for an amateur and 7,500 to 1 for a pro - how they work that out I really don't know.

I think it's a mixture of the two mind you the best players get more than average players - so more skill than luck for me.

Hang on a second, there is a huge amount of skill involved in a hole in one and a little luck. These guys practise for years to be able to get the ball on the green.

It has to be more luck than skill. Why do players look so surprised when it happens... that shows that it's luck!
