If we banned all of them, there would be few customers left. The thing to do is address their "jerky" behavior and try to curb it as much as possible. I find having the manager or floor man speak to them does wonders. [nq:1]But he continues to often get out of line. You and Betty are a captive audience. I've had several players ... causes far exceeds the play he gives the casino. Of course this is my gut feeling and difficult to quantify.[/nq] Well, if people avoid the game when he's in it, that is too bad; however, if he gets out of line even a little, I'm all over him like an old overcoat. Lately, that hasn't occurred very often. Bottom line, he's a customer too, his behavior has significantly improved, and he's not out of line to the point he should be barred from the casino. In the past, he was removed from the game when he was slowing it down badly; it turns out he had a medical problem that day. Anyway, I will always try to see that people who play in the 10-20 game at the Bicycle have a comfortable playing experience. Barbara Gallamore

Rick Nebiolo: [nq:1]obnoxious[/nq][nq:2]jerk, you will find people who actually like the jerk in question. After all, even Ted Bundy received marriage proposals in jail.[/nq] [nq:1]EB has modified his behavior quite a bit, especially since Betty B. has befriended him. He loves the attention she ... he does have a lapse: laughing when someone loses, or slow-rolls someone, I immediately reprimand him and he backs off.[/nq] I haven't been in the 10/20 game lately, and if this is the case then you and Betty are doing a good job regarding EB. But he did do some damage over time and that damage persists. Perhaps when someone in another game "sharks your game" (I use this term in honor of Speed Racer) and sees EB, they only go by their past memory of his misbehavior and often pass. [nq:2]This guy is no Ted Bundy, and he isn't in ... a jerk even if he occasionally curbs his jerky behavior.[/nq] [nq:1]Rick, many "jerks" frequent a card room. If we banned all of them, there would be few customers left.[/nq] This view has certain similarities to that made by the former Bell Club Manager regarding cheats as quoted in the Los Angeles Times circa 1982. Gee, using Google, I found it: "If I keep kicking the cheaters out, one day I'll look out (onto the card room floor) and there won't be any games going on." said Richard Brisbines, a long-time gambling executive and general manager of the California Bell Club." Anyway, IMO the more "jerks" the industry got rid of or curbed (and I'm not talking about the occasional jerk, rather the day in and day out jerks) the more well behaved nice customers we will get in return. They will in turn attract more nice customers. Twelve million people live in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The card clubs (including the Commerce) hardly scratch the surface of that potential player pool. [nq:1]The thing to do is address their "jerky" behavior and try to curb it as much as possible. I find having the manager or floor man speak to them does wonders.[/nq] Agreed, it does wonders. Unfortunately, too many managers and floor have the attitude that all customers are good customers. That is simply not true. [nq:2]But he continues to often get out of line. You ... course this is my gut feeling and difficult to quantify.[/nq] [nq:1]Well, if people avoid the game when he's in it, that is too bad; however, if he gets out of ... behavior has significantly improved, and he's not out of line to the point he should be barred from the casino.[/nq] If his behavior has improved because of your efforts you are doing a great job. But he hurt your game during his prior bad moments and his past misbehavior probably sticks in peoples memory today. [nq:1]In the past, he was removed from the game when he was slowing it down badly; it turns out he ... always try to see that people who play in the 10-20 game at the Bicycle have a comfortable playing experience.[/nq] Don't get me wrong. On a scale of 1 to 10 in the card club industry with 10 being best your game is about a 9.5 regarding player behavior. It has always been known for that. Unfortunately, IMO the industry in general is about a 4 compared to where is should be. ~ Rick

Steve N: I'm in Rick's corner on this issue, EB may have "cleaned up" his act alot, I haven't played with him for long, but he is clearly detrimental to the game. The regulars are used to him, and justify his behavior since he isn't nearly as bad as many others who frequent the LA yellow chip games, and being a prototypical calling station, is pretty easy to beat. However, the few times I've played with EB in the game, I can see the faces of your "non-regulars" when he slow rolls them, or puts on his act and holds up the game.It hurts your customer base long term, I don't think there's much question about it. If Barbara, Betty and the floormen have been speaking to him, it hasn't done enough, he wants to do things his way and he thinks it is amusing. I think he should be warned about his behavior in the sternest fashion possible, and if he continues to disrupt the other players with his antics, he should be barred. Steve N

Poker Skid: [nq:1]A couple of small corrections: The PL game at HPC hosted by Jim Delaney moved to the Hustler when that ... once again moved back to HPC with Ron still as host. Got it? Good, there will be a quiz later.[/nq]Well if you really want to get specifc, the PL (how NL) game that JD hosts was originally at the Commerce, were it was hosted by Al J. The game than moved to HPC, still hosted by Al J., when JD was still a dealer a in Oceanside... Marc Evans

Diane from Green Bay: [nq:1]Diane, his initials are EB. I agree is a pain in the ass, but he plays almost every day and, ... you from playing in our game, but, even though he's irritating to some people, he's not going anywhere. Barbara Gallamore[/nq]Barbara, I recognize that the needs of the regular day in and day out players in your games are different than mine. The Bike also has the right to set its standards for player behavior. But I would think someone who needs to be talked to by a floor man repeatedly about his behavior, would wear out his welcome after awhile? I mean, how many warnings should the same player get for the same offensive habits towards customers and dealers? My playing is for purely social and recreational reasons. Make a little money, but after all the tourney and travel expenses, not a large sum involved each year. But I still love it. But life is too short for me to waste my time in a game that holds a jerk like that. Too many other things to do. You have done everything you can during all of my visits to keep things as enjoyable and comfortable as you could within your control. I appreciate that and know you try hard for me and all the $10-20 players to make it fun. But unfortunately he is still there and by now, we both know that he is aware of my dislike for him and that I will pull out of a game if he comes in. Last month, it seemed like he was just waiting for the opportunity to "get to me". Remember how hard he fought to make sure he got called in the right order from the transfer list to make sure he got in our game, even though there was a second game going and someone else who wanted to transfer? So as you know, I left. This is no reflection on you or your "hosting" of the game. You treat people as if they were guests in your home, which is wonderful. You do a marvelous job - he is just beyond what I am willing to endure while having "fun". I still look forward to seeing you and the other Bike players in a few weeks. Diane

Diane from Green Bay: [nq:1][/nq][nq:2]It's too bad he's keeping you from playing in our game, but, even though he's irritating to some people, he's not going anywhere.[/nq] [nq:1]And this is unfortunate IMO. Poker needs more Diane's and fewer EB's (although Mason Malmuth may disagree LOL.. Thanks for the compliment. Since you mentioned it, I am sure Mason would disagree. (Vince, feel free to comment on his behalf) Unfortunately Masona plays in the only places I go to in Las Vegas so seeing him is inevitable. Despite our past issues though, I would rather have MASON at my poker table than EB... Diane

Diane from Green Bay: [nq:1]Customers such as yourself driven away by obnoxious jerks are usually driven away silently (which is why your public post ... is barred (assuming his behavior is uncorrectable), you lose business today but gain business in the long run. Regards, Rick[/nq]Rick, I did complain to the floorman on duty at least 2 of the times I was there. If I have a problem in a poker room, I am rarely "silent". It is important (at least to me) to mention that I did talk to management. Since in the past, on this newsgroup, I have criticized others who first air their complaints HERE in a public forum, as opposed to going to someone in management who has the ability to fix things. Anyhow..I look forward to seeing you, Barbara, and Marc, when I am out in LA next month. Diane

Diane from Green Bay: [nq:1]Yes. Bike 10-20. Great game. Six props and one slow-rolling ***.[/nq]On the contrary, I thought the games were good each visit, until he showed up. Props don't bother me. But then again, my reasons for playing are different than others. But I made money in the games (everyone wants that) and everyone else was very nice, good food, clean place, and some nice promotions. Diane

Bjgkaraoke: [nq:1] I look forward to your visit, Diane. Barbara Gallamore[/nq]Diane, there are usually two 20-40 games going every day and EB doesn't play in them. Anyway, I think enough space and energy has been wasted on that old man, so don't let him worry you. See you next month. Barbara Gallamore
