I want to make the next step in betting/sports statistic businessThis is a discussion thread · 2 replies Hi. I just discovered this place. Ok anyway, here is my story. When i finished highschool i wasnt totally sure what to do, and i ended up going to work. After some experimenting, i landed in a sports data providing company. It was a new company at the time. It all started of by entering football data for live games, what the company was collecting. Media and Inrunning data, like goals, corners, passing, shots on target, blocked shots, woodwork etc etc. As time passed, things also developed in the company. The company was starting to look for people who would enter random sports data, like historycal sports data resulting, meaning goals scored. Then time past and i, and many others got a full time job. Eventually i became a manager and my tasks got bigger. I was now creating new data, like entering football league data (fixtures) in to office software, and then i also had some other tasks, like setting up the games what part-time workers were watching (the same thing what i just described). Besides that i was operating with full-time workers, giving them new tasks (creating new football leagues, and other sports leagues, creating new sports competitors for various sports for betting markets). So again, as the time past, things got bigger and bigger. New departments were made, like Quality control department. Resulting and event creating for sports got bigger and bigger, and everything was going live; meaning that when games ended in real time, like for example english premier league games, then the workers in the office were entering all the resulting data. Besides that, there were other everyday things needed to be done, like tennis event creating and monitoring and so on. But it all got a bit too big for my liking. So i was thinking about having a new opportunity. Like i said, when i first went to that company, i had no idea where it would all develope. When i went there, there was just 3 managers and a "bunch" of part-time workers who were entering the live games data. Thats how i started of as well, and while i was working i was thinking about going to university sooner or later. But after everything what happened i got very fond of the whole betting/sports business, so i was thinking about going abroad. I was checking a lot of job options, in Malta, Gibraltar and UK. But even with all the experience and knowledge i had gotten, i was struggling to make that "next" step. In the end i had 1 good opportunity and couple of bad ones. The good opportunity was in UK, to be like a country manager for a betting company, it was basically a website editor/promoter. But even that opportunity wasnt really that what i was looking for. The other options where less interesting, basically poker customer service. I actually did a test for some company, but customer service really isnt something for me. I am keen football follower, so my love basically is football, and therefore i was thinking more in the lines of becoming a bookie, odds compiler or something in those lines. But i just didnt get that kind of opportunity. (That was all last year 2009). So i ended up going to university. But my love and passion for football is still good and i have been thinking maybe to have a long term career in the betting business. I am not too sure what to look for though. Since i didnt get the odds compiling job i was looking for, i dont know if thats really something for me. I have made some researching, and i dont know, maybe i would like to end up one day as somekind of a production office manager for betting company. I am also aware that i need a good education for that, so therefore i have checked a bit of this and that. Right now i am studying part-time IT. But i am also quite interested of commercial and i might switch to commercial degree university. Anyway, i just want some advice. Where to start, where to aim? I am aware that to get a good career you need good education. I am estonian myself, but i speak and write in english. Currently i live in Tallinn. Best regards, S Just to let you know, last year i tried bettingjobs.com and pentasia.com for opportunities but it seemed that it was better of to contact the betting companies straight, also i didnt really get any job offers from those 2 recruitment companies. I have checked some other websites and their affilities but it seems that customer service is the only option i could have, and that just isnt what i am looking for. I understand that since i dont have any experience in the odds compiling, i cant just become one instantly, but i am not sure if odds compiling even is what i am looking for. Its just that the whole experience what i got in the past has made me want even more to live in the sports betting kind of environment. I feel that i have the knowledge and passion for it. I just dont know where to start and where to aim in a way. Hi Stephan, yes it is hard at times to get involved in the igaming industry and sometimes difficult to determine which job is for you. Your approach is a very good one, Aiming high can at times pay off. However starting off in customer care is a way of getting your food in the door. This can help you move forward as you would be more familiar with systems and procedures within the industry. I know the wage would not be all that interesting but in the long run it would pay off. If you are in a hurry i would suggest you keep applying to as many job posts that are available online. By this i mean both recruitment companies and directly with iGaming companies. Alternatively we are soon opening a recruitment section within iGaming Forums. This will have job-listings from both recruitment companies and also direct clients. Hope this info is usefull to you and good hunting regards Rob | Have a question? People are waiting to help. Interesting stuff |
