I think the last line of the article, while maybe again CW, is very true.

'They' have been saying this for over a decade now. Yet 40 million or so people go to Vegas every year, despite all the new casinos.

There are about 5 Indian casinos within the area of which I live. None of them even come close to the experience that is Las Vegas.

I agree 100%. They can't even begin to compare themselves with Las Vegas casinos.

Ditto, but for some people they are better than nothing.

The Indian casinos have drastically improved, but compared to Vegas, even the best Indian casinos are tame.
I'd take walking down the Strip, hitting Caesars, Mirage, TI, Wynn, Venetian and then cabbing it to downtown to gamble over visiting my local casinos any day.

yep, I heard that.
You out-of-towners should try:
1. Mesquite
2. Laughlin
3. Primm and Jean
4. Beatty
5. Tonopah
6 Hawthorne
7. Pahrump

I like the Reno style of Casinos, simple and down-to-earth and you can find those in some places in Vegas.

I doubt those other areas have as much side action entertainment as Vegas.

That last quote is from "Jan Jones, a senior vice president for Harrah's Entertainment"; any relation to Jan Jones, former mayor of Las Vegas?
One thing surprised me; the article says that three Reno casinos closed in part because of a tribal casino (I assume the article means Jackson Rancheria?) that opened near Sacramento. Since California casinos don't have craps, roulette, or sports betting (note that sports books are illegal outside of Nevada, even in tribal casinos), what exactly was drawing the crowds to Reno in the first place (besides, of course, the skiing in the winter)?
(However, Vegas needs a new slogan:
LAS VEGAS.
FOR ADULTS ONLY.
AGAIN.
Parents of young kids need to get the hint.)

Yep. Same person.

Yippee! A casino without craps, roulette, sports betting, etc. That ought to kill off Vegas.

You pretty much answered your own question. It's because CA does NOT offer gaming that Reno does.
Other than skiing, I guess it's cheaper, colder and closer to No. Cal. than Vegas.

I've been preaching this for years. Glad that Vegas is somewhat returning to it's adult roots.
