When my bets for the dealers are the Kiss of Death I revert to making stealth bets for them. Instead of a two-way hardway, 5 and 1, I'll just call it for 6, then hand in the their piece of the action if it wins. Another common scenario: $15 Pass Line; shooter comes out on 6 or 8. Normally, on a double odds table, I'll take only $25 odds, but if it's toke time I'll take $30, the extra nickel being the stealth bet.

Oh man, ain't that the truth. I often throw out a $5 2-way hard ten set to parlay when the point is 5 but lately that seems to ensure a 7 out as the next call! I've only had the parlay hit once so far.

The line bets usually work out better though. Sometimes I start out with $5 on the line for the dealers for karma, but often I don't start betting for them until I've made at least one pass. If I'm really hot I'll put some odds back there for them too. And then when I color up after a win I'll typically hand in something.
Question- say I have my line bet maxed out with full odds. Can I put a dealer bet on top of that odds bet? Example- on a 3/4/5x table the point is 10 and I put $30 behind my $10 line bet. Can I put another $5 back there for the dealers for a total of $35? I keep forgetting to ask the question when I'm in the casino...
Thanks

Marshall,
I've seen it both ways at different casinos where the odds were maxed out.

Think you have to ask.

I've done it lots of times, and have never had a box tell me "No, I'm sorry, you're over the limit".

John,
I've never heard that one about deducted the losing bets. Did someone actually discuss that with the IRS or why do you say you couldn't do it.

I like the thinking.

Dealer tips

Usually I only have to tell them once or twice and they remember going forward.. I try to get a few tips in for the dealers (Hardways for $1 each or $4 horn on the comeout) and their memory improves.

It fascinates me in craps that this culture has evolved for dealer tips that involves placing high-vig bets for the dealers. Overall the dealers would be much better off if players made line bets or especially odds for the dealers (when the player doesn't take max odds), but it doesn't seem to happen much. Do you think dealers know this but don't want to buck a player-trend that is working for them? Or are they just excited about going for the big score?

Having been a dealer, I can tell you that I would have rather had a "hand-in"...no HA to overcome Emotion: smile. But I also understood that the player wanted us to have "action", and over a long peiod of time, the high vig bets for the dealers return almost what's expected. So yes, we loved the high vig bets, for every dollar bet for us, we expected to pocket around
90 cents. We did like the line bets better, and when a real George alsoplaced odds for us, they definately got the service above and beyond! Dealers appreciate any and all bets placed for them..that's how they make a living. And over a long enough period of time, they enjoy the "persentage" of wins that one would expectfor any given bet to produce. Just an after thought, we often talked about why we couldn't "deduct" the losing bets from our winnngs for tax purposes, just like a player could..after all, it is our money once it is in play. That didn't make it very far with the IRS though Emotion: smile!

Noah, we discussed it often, but the word we got back from the "powers to be", was that they didn't consider it our money until it was collected..then it was classified as a tip. They did not agree that we were "gambling", they maintained that the player was doing the gambling, and tipping us part of their winnings is all.
