ok, somebody please clear this up for me. I was under the impressio that when Harrah's bought the Horseshoe casino in Vegas, that th Binion family would retain the rights to the WSOP. Furthermore, heard a rumor that this year's WSOP wasn't even going to be in the sam building as in years past. Perhaps they would move it to one of th more upscale casinos in the area. I could be wrong, but does Harrah' really have any control over this years' WSOP

You been living in a cave somewhere?
Three way deal.
MTR bought the physical plant and the right to the Binion's name.

Harrah's managed the property for two years, and got the Horseshoe name, and the right to stage the WSOP. (They already own all the other Horseshoes, which they bought from Jack Binion, for a shitload more money than they paid Becky for the last one.)
Harrah's owns the WSOP and they're moving it to the Rio, except they'll stage the last two days of the main event at the ' shoe.

Harrah's purchased the WSOP and the Horseshoe brand. They have been running Binion's for the past 8 months under agreement with MTR Gaming- the purchaser of the downtown property. That agreement ends in March, meaning the Horseshoe name will be removed from the property at that time (the new name will simply be "Binion's").

The 2005 WSOP will be held at Rio with the final 3 tables moving to Binion's. The final table agreement was struck in part by Oscar Goldman during the original purchase agreement. Oscar wanted to insure that the WSOP would remain downtown in 2005 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Vegas.

The only asset The Horseshoe had that was worth anything is the WSOP. That's all Harrah's wanted.

They wanted the name, too they're planning some sort of Strip project that will be called the Horseshoe.
