Jeff Harper:
[nq:2]Washington You said "I think most would consider it mainstream." (See above.) I'm saying it's not.[/nq]
[nq:1]Let me rephrase, does the validity and the facts of the story depend on our agreement that the paper is mainstream or not? If the information presented is factual (and by all accounts it appears that it is) does it matter?[/nq]
The problem is that one cannot accept the story at face value but must instead ascertain whether "the information presented is factual." Further, while the information presented may be factual, there may be some selectivity in what information was presented to begin with and how it was presented.

Jeff Harper:
[nq:2]I think the correct assessment is that neither the left-wing nor the moderate mainstream media thinks it's newsworthy.[/nq]
[nq:1]By virtue of the fact that they are failing to provide all sides of the story it is pretty easy to see that at the very least your "moderate mainstream media" is partisan. This in no way makes the information less newsworthy.[/nq]
I would argue that it would. I would say that if that partisanship was prevalent in their choice of stories and in their presentation of stories, the readers' impression of what's going on would be distorted. It's easy for a biased publication to emphasize certain stories, or facts withing a story, and give a general impression that is not objective, despite the accuracy of the facts.
Of course there are degrees.

Ben Franklin:
[nq:2]So, how do you feel about Dan Rather and CBS?[/nq]
[nq:1]If they deliberately lied and mislead viewers, I think they should lose their credibility. How do you feel about JohnnyD?[/nq]
Better than I do about CBS/Rather. JohnnyD admitted his post was a hoax which is entirely different than the way the CBS issue has been handled.
99.99 percent of the people now believe that the documents are fakes yetCBS fails to take accountability, much less address the issue.

I don't believe there is much wiggle room. The actual transcript of the call was presented where she directly refutes her fathers claims and goes even further indicting him as a liar. These things do not change because of the source.

What in the heck are you talking about, Jeff? Are you saying that you will no longer rely on CBS because of what they did? Just because they slant all their news is why folks think they slant their news. This last thing is just so over-the-top noone would have believed it was possible. CBS is not a dishonest news source (except in this one instance) ... that does not mitigate the fact that they slant their reporting. It is not a conspiracy or anything ... it is just the way it is.

Johnny never explicitly admitted what he did. Nor did he apologize. He also mischaracterized my position on the documents and CBS.

I think most clear thinking people know whether it was a hoax or not and whether I admitted it or not. And no, I didn't apologize. I was making a point and I believe you even used the word "clever" when you were talking about what I did. On your position on CBS you've indicated in the past that you don't think CBS is a source of propaganda for the left. They've proven they are.

I think JohnnyD called up CBS, and got the snippet from there.
