O.T. USA Today asks Dubya-'Where were you in '72'?This is a discussion thread · 138 replies Nick: USA Today recently asked the following questions about Dubya's embarrassing service record:1) Did Bush receive preferential treatment in getting into the Guardand getting a coveted pilot slot? Hmmm..let's see now, maybe we can work this one out inferentially. It was the peak of the Vietnam War, and there was waiting list of over 100,000 men to get into the Air National Guard. Although he scored the absolute numerical minimum (25) on the qualifying test, Bush got a direct commission and was assigned one of the last two pilot slots in the state in the section of the Texas Guard known as the "champagne unit." 2) Why did Bush, described by some of his fellow officers as atalented and enthusiastic pilot, stop flying fighter jets in the spring of 1972 and fail to take the annual physical exam required by all pilots? Dubya-we need help on this one since it strains credulity. 3) What explains the gap in the president's Guard service in 1972-73,a period when commanders in Texas and Alabama say they never saw him report for duty and records show no pay to Bush when he was supposed to be on duty in Alabama? The 72-73 gap in Bush's Guard record might have been explained by old Pentagon records but gosh darn it, those very records turn out to have been destroyed by mistake. Don't you know Bush was upset that the records that could have proven his story turned out to be gone? Several newspapers have put in freedom-of-information requests for still other records, but nothing has been forthcoming so far. Stay tuned to this thread-although some of America's most enterprising journalists have been unable to unearth documents that shed light on the glaring holes in Dubya's embarrassing service record, the bettin' money says there'll be no shortage of fertile explanations from the usual rgp suspects. Gary Carson: [nq:1]1) Did Bush receive preferential treatment in getting into the Guard and getting a coveted pilot slot?[/nq]Of course he did. Before the last election Ben Barnes admitted getting GW into the Guard at the request of a Bush family friend. There's no dispute about it. Gary Carson http://garycarson.com

Matt7084: So help me out, jackass, what bearing does this have on the upcoming election? Or are you just trying in vain to smear our President? If trying to avoid Vietnam when you were a young adult makes you a bad candidate, then Clinton should have been the worst President in distant memory (but we all know that was Jimmy Carter). And Kerry isnt convincing anyone that he, by unsuccessfully trying to get deferred by the Army, then joining the Navy swift boats, then scooping up 3 purple hearts in 4 months without taking a single bullet is a war hero. And by the way, the Guard, which Dems have tried so hard to discredit and disgrace, saw the highest percentage casualty rate among its soldeirs in the Vietnam war. -matt [nq:2]1) Did Bush receive preferential treatment in getting into the Guard and getting a coveted pilot slot?[/nq] [nq:1]Of course he did. O-PGManager: [nq:1]There's no dispute about it. [/nq]The other day on CNN a Republican was trying to equivocate the moveon ads with the SBVs by saying MoveOn outrageously alleged that Bush used family connections to get into the guard. Shockingly enough, there is still some dispute about it. Posted using RecPoker.com - http://www.recpoker.com

Bill Bradley: [nq:1]1) Did Bush receive preferential treatment in getting into the Guard and getting a coveted pilot slot?[/nq]Of course. And I don't believe he just happened to score the bare minimum on the pilot's exam. That was probably tweaked too. [nq:1]2) Why did Bush, described by some of his fellow officers as a talented and enthusiastic pilot, stop flying fighter jets in the spring of 1972 and fail to take the annual physical exam required by all pilots?[/nq] I always assumed it was because he knew he'd fail the drug test. [nq:1]3) What explains the gap in the president's Guard service in 1972-73, a period when commanders in Texas and Alabama say they never saw him report for duty and records show no pay to Bush when he was supposed to be on duty in Alabama?[/nq] That's an easy one. Partying.

James Monroe: [nq:1]So help me out, jackass, what bearing does this have on the upcoming election? Or are you just trying in vain to smear our President?[/nq]The only person to mention the upcoming election was you. The original poster asked a question and Gary answered it accurately. So, what's your little problem? Was the original poster out of line for asking a question the answer to which you obviously find embarrassing or was Gary out of line for supplying the accurate answer that's a matter of public record?

O-PGManager: [nq:1]And by the way, the Guard, which Dems have tried so hard to discredit and disgrace, saw the highest percentage casualty rate among its soldeirs in the Vietnam war.[/nq]No one tried to discredit the guard. Bush loves this particular brand of misdirection: Critic: Mr. Bush there are obvious holes in your service record, despite having been assigned to the safest squadron in the National Guard and having virtually no risk of going to Vietnam you appear to have not fulfilled your duties. Bush: I really can't stand it when people denigrate the guard. Criticize me all you want, but a lot of good people have served in the guard. Critic: Mr. Bush why did we not have a strong international coalition in Iraq? Why are we going at it alone? Bush: I really can't stand it when people denigrate the contributions of the other nations. It's really unfair. Critic: Mr. Bush the SBVs, a group with ties to you, is spreading lies about Kerry's service record. Bush: All the 527s need to go, I agree. Posted using RecPoker.com - http://www.recpoker.com

RC: What a person did or didn't do in 'Nam should not be the most important issue, however, difference is Clinton never tried to smear someone else's war record when he himself didn't have the stones to serve. Anybody that sets foot on enemy territory and risks his life for our country should not have their character questioned unless you have some solid proof. One of the reasons Clinton was a great president is that our economy was the best its been in decades when he was president. Who gives a *** if he got a blow job and lied about it.

A. Prock: According to Matt7084 (Email Removed):[nq:1]So help me out, jackass, what bearing does this have on the upcoming election? Or are you just trying in ... candidate, then Clinton should have been the worst President in distant memory (but we all know that was Jimmy Carter).[/nq] Oh, so you agree (with the fact) that Bush got preferential treatment to get into the guard, and was trying to avoid service in Vietnam. How refreshing. - Andrew http://www.pokerstove.com
