Oz Lotteries

This is a copy and paste of the email I received from Ozlotteries.com saying they will no longer accept deposits from U.S. accounts. The U.S. is supposed to be a free country as is Australia yet our freedom to spend our money is being controlled and this Australian company seems to believe they are obliged to obey this law as if it were a treaty. On well another layer added to the *** cake of life.

Hello Robert
Thank you for your email.
Please note that unfortunately we are forced to stop taking orders (and deposits) for Lotto purchases from US residents due to the 'Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006' which is part of the Safe Port Act which was passed by the US Congress.

This unfortunately puts a stop to the sale of gaming products to US citizens including Lotteries.
We regret any inconvenience that this will cause, however the matter is out of our hands.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for being a member of Ozlotteries.
Best regards,
Debbie

Send the money to me Robert. I'll open an account there in the name of your choice from here in Canada to help you skin another apple.

My understanding is that there is nothing in Australian law to stop Ozlotteries continuing as before. US-based credit card companies are not allowed to make payments to internet gambling companies under US law, which makes paying for bets rather cumbersome. However, executives of Australian internet gambling companies which continue to accept US investments are liable to be arrested on charges of racketeering if they set foot on US soil - as has happened with executives of UK and Europe-based internet gambling companies.
In fact the situation with the UK is even worse - in an extraordinarily one-sided treaty intended to facilitate apprehension of terrorism suspects, the US can demand the extradition of UK citizens on the basis of doing things which are quite legal in the UK but not vice versa. This was recently used to grab three insider-dealers (the NatWest three) that UK law-enforcement proved powerless to deal with.

thats a shame, looks like ozlotteries are going to lose a large percent of their market. and u lose playing for tax free ; im pretty sure still have to pay uncle sam tax if u win over seas lotteries stick out tongue , prizes and 40c entry fees
i live in oz and would ofer to buy your tickets for you, for a small fee of say %5 of any nice win. i wouldnt want to take %5 of any nickle n dime wins, say anything
but then it prob wouldnt be a good idea. for you that is. how could u trust a stranger half the world away to hand over a win?

just 4 ya info , we have pre purchase ov entries here in our state, i usually buy 10 weeks ahead. but i think it can go upto 6 months in pre orders.

You missed out 'over here'!
When Bush lost overall control, market pundits thought his anti-gambling legislation would be repealed. However UK stock market moves seem to reckon the ban will stay in place. The stock markets can be pretty savvy - it's reckoned Bin Laden made a lot of money through share dealing with the prior knowledge of 9/11.

Bush loses overall control on Jan 20, 2009. Be patient and your wish will come true.

Somebody made a lot of money. Prior to 9/11 there was heavy short selling on airline stocks. Probably Bush/Cheney huh ?

The U.S. government has no problem sending our money and allowing our jobs and manufacturing to be sent out of the country and then makes it impossible for me to sent ten dollars of my own hard earned money overseas to be spent as I see fit. Maybe if we didn't keep pretending the U.S. is a free country we might discover what's really going on.

The US is a great place to live, work, and complain huh ?

This seems like a good time to outsource yourself to a country that has more freedom than you currently have.
You don't seem to mind donating your money to a foreign economy ;-)

Maybe you're so comfortable in your cocoon you don't realize it's a prison. Pretty much the only rights we have left unfettered is the right to complain. When one of our city commission starts to react to one of the public comments at the commission meeting, the others remind him the idea is to let the public say whatever they want and move to the next speaker. No action or ideas are ever accepted unless it's in the direction they were going anyway.
In America so long as you have more money then you need everything seems just fine.

The line makes no sense. There is no connection between the countries that have our jobs and the ones that offer more economic freedom.

I do that every time I play at the native american casino on sovereign tribal land.
It's supposed to be a world economy. I should have the same right to invest my money overseas as U.S. corporations. Tell me how building a factory in China isn't a gamble.
