Is there any particular reason why people write down the numbers that come up on roulette at live casino venues. The numbers are purely random, I hope, so I don't quite see the point in doing it.

The only logical explanation that I can give is to check how random the numbers are that come out... but I think there is a lot more superstition involved in this!

I think it's a marketing tactic that casinos use to make players think that they are more able to predict where the ball will land if they actually study the wheel for a while. Only a sucker would really fall for that!

It keeps you aware of streaks.

Yup, I've read alot about people bringing notepads to casinos to chart streaks and to find patterns in seemingly random systems. I believe the goal is to eventually work a system around the gathered data...

Look at any mess of numbers long enough and you'll see the number three everywhere, however it can also be argued that any chaotic system has some kind of coherent pattern. I don't speculate to much on the validity of this :D
