Phil Ivey is a StiffThis is a discussion thread · 50 replies FireForEffect: I know he is the current boy wonder of Poker, But generous he is not. I work as a craps dealer at a Las Vegas casino he regularly plays at ( Ill let you figure out which one), and Phil plays pretty big at the tables. We dread him coming towards the pit, because we know he is a lot of work, and worth almost nothing to us, no matter how much he wins. For those of you who don't know, pit dealers make close to minimum wage, and almost our entire income is based on tips.We are just like waitresses or bartenders ( It seems the large breasted cocktail waitresses always get tipped). Phil is a progressive come better, so he requires a lot of work and attention. I'm sure people were generous to him when his career started, but he seems to have forgotten the regular guy. Until he loosens up the purse strings, I shall wish for him the same fortune in poker that he has bestowed upon us in dice. Irish Mike: A guy posted a while back about being in an AC restaurant and seeing Men Nuyen came in with a group of Asians, after just winning $40K in a tournament. The whole group stiffed the waitress. Big money cheap skates are nothing new.Irish Mike Alex Pierson: Thats unfortunate. But does anybody have the same trouble tipping casino dealers (poker or otherwise) because the the policy that all the dealers share tips? I do I don't like the idea of tipping poor service, which is what I am doing if there is a shared pool of tips.I know he is the current boy wonder of Poker, But generous he is not. FWIW, I've been going to Las Vegas and Reno since 1980, and I always* tip, even when losing. I allocate my funds (1) expenses, (2) gambling, (3) tips, never dipping into one fund to cover another fund. I *always ask the dealers if they are sharing tips (some casinos didn't share tips in the good 'ole days) to let them know that I care about their tips. And it's not tipping that I believe in, it's OVER tipping. Even marginal service improves dramatically when I over tip. I'll never be a fully-comped high stakes whale, but I feel special when dealers, waitresses, waiters, valets, etc. all know my face and greet me with a genuine smile. What goes around, comes around... Alex Pierson: Are bad waiters "entitled" to a 20% tip from me? Are bad "dealers" who are mean, no fun or disrespectful "entitled" to a tip from me? I believe one should earn what one makes. Maybe you were kidding I hope so.FYI..If I am in a poker room and all/most of the dealers do a fine job, I have no problem tipping aggressively. I tip anyway even if thats not the case I just have "trouble" doing it and may tip less when some of the dealers are poor performers. Maybe Phil Ivey feels as though he is treated badly and therefore does not tip for that reason by the tone of the original poster's post, it sure seems like he is treated poorly give how difficult he is. For crying out loud, minimum wage or not its your job and you should treat him like gold (and everybody else) every time whether or not he tips you. Who knows maybe he'll notice next time and give you a very nice tip. "I don't like the idea of tipping poor service, which is what I am doing if there is a shared pool of tips." I got into Vegas very late one night and checked into the MGM Grand. I was really tired and had the bell man bring my bags up to the room. I tipped him $50.00! It was totally by accident - I had meant to give him $5.00. When I realized what I had done, he was so grateful that I was too embarrassed to ask for the $50.00 back. Apparently he spread the word because every service person in the hotel treated me great for the rest of my stay.
