Play money practice - worth anything? This is a discussion thread · 3 replies Chris V: I rarely play play-money games anymore, but occasionally like to relax and engage in what i'd consider poker drills, and play money is good for that...Wondering what people think; is there anything at ALL to be gained by practice on these tables? They don't behave like cash games... until you're into the late stages of a high stakes SnG maybe... Witht the higher stakes games, not any kid can jump in and go All-in every hand; because you have to have spent a lot of time winning, before you have a big enough roll to take part... this filters out some of the completely ridiculous play.. Wondering what others think; I remember IRC poker from way back in the days before web-based casinos, and there were actually stats kept, and a reasonably tough level of play.. C

Notorious: I think it adds no value to you at all. In fact, I think it actually harms your play. A bunch of idiots calling and raising could influence your play in real money games.A step-by-step guide to earning thousands in online poker bonuses www.pokerbankroll.blogspot.com Notorious Notorious's Profile: http://www.pokerplayerforums.com/forums/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=84 View this thread: http://www.pokerplayerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=54433

TurboPebbles: I agree that play money poker is usually unrealistic. People call on anything, so unless you are playing high stakes games where the money refill is limited, it's pretty lame practice. If you want to run drills and you have a PC, I'd recommend Turbo Texas Hold 'Em. It's a great simulator and you can play in "advice" mode to help you practice. It also has a "zip" feature so you can speed up the rest of the hand any time you fold. So it's not as time-wasting as using play money online. Good Luck! =)

onthebutton: Hmmm..Well, when I first started playing play money, I would play about three tables at once. Doing this would make me tight, and I'd win. I would play tight b/c I didn't want to waste time on bad hands. That was on UB. When I downloaded Full Tilt, I started to play worse. I think it's "worth" depends on how you treat it... do you treat it like a real game or a fake game? I also think you're right in saying that the higher limit play money games are more realistic.I used to play only play money online and when I would lose my 150,000 bankroll I felt as if I had just lost a bunch of money. Assuming everyone feels at least a little like this people play better when they feel like they're playing with "real money".
