How to Play In An Unusual Tournament
Ok, here's how the tournament is set up, it's a little weird... It is a satellite with 48 people playing. The top six move on to the main event. Here is the catch. Play only goes on for an hour, and the six players with the most chips after an hour move on to the finals. My question is how to play in this type of tournament? Do I play very loose and aggressive to accumulate as many chips as possible early and then tighten up and wait for the hour to expire? Or do I play tight and overbet my marginal to good hands to build up big pots? Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks Your Online Poker Community - [link]

Cheating at AP

im down to top 3 in an SNG with about 5000 chips, 1350 chips in the game. Ive been berating and slandering my opponents the entire SNG, which is what i usually do. so anyway one of the players im playing against starts dumping chips to the shortstack! he literally bet all of the guys chips but 100 and told him in the chat window to re raise him and he'll fold. this went on for awile but i still one because everything ide raise theyde both call trying to knock em out. now i always berate my opponents for whatever reason whether poor play or a stupid handle, but i have never had this happen to me. anyway i would report it to AP but they have the absoltue worst customer service ever, i have emailed them twice about other things and they refuse to respond. also i dont have the table no. . is there anything u guys can recomend me do to prevent this from happening again? Fixing hole in SH O8 game
I recently found an enormous hole in my game by tracking all of my sessions. I play primarily PL o8 and Limit O8 both online and in B&M. I found that fully 1/3 of my profits were eaten up by playing losing short-handed sessions. While I have stopped playing short-handed, I still would like to work on improving my short-handed game. What are some of the common mistakes made in short-handed O8? How should I compare my losing short-handed game to my winning regular game to find the holes? In keeping with the Annie Duke story, what do you consider to be the worst of the somewhat popular TV shows. I have to start with Surreallife starring Flava-flav, Brigette Nelson and Charo. Oh Gawd. RecGroups : the community-oriented newsreader : www.recgroups.com

Results of Testing McBastard/Filthy McBastard...

The results are in....and McBastard/Filthy McBastard was profitable through pure aggression!!!....Here are the stats...played for 5 hours/705 hands/2-3 $.50/1 NLHE tables/Dealt Mcbastard K6 os, 8 times, won 6/8 hands not one going to a showdown and not once hitting the King and hitting the 6 only once, for a profit of $26.75....Dealt the Filthy McBastard 2 timesfor winning one and losing one, didn't hit the K or 6 and never had 4 to a flush, had a net loss of $0.65...So, a total profit of $26.10 on the night with the McBastard/Filthy McBastard....Well it was interesting to say the least and probably easily could have gone the other way but I decided to play it like it was the nuts as cincy kid once said (raising preflop w/it and always raising anywhere from half pot to pot size when the flop was checked to me) and by simply betting I was able to take down 7/10 of the pots I was involved in with it. [nq:1]Just had K6, folded and K66 floped so i'm going to give it a run (what the hell)...cincy kid this one's for you...playing 2-3 50/1 NLHE tables on fullilt right now...I will play them for any raise that is no more than 3 times the BB for the next couple hours, keep track of my results and post them later this morning....Oh man, I hope I don't get killed w/this foolishness...Wish me luck.[/nq] * New Release: RecPoker.com v2.1 - [link]

Wouldn't you call this a string bet?

I went up to Pechanga the other day to check out their new room. For those of you who have been there, the room kicks ass. But they apparently have a peculiar rule: There was a guy who on at least 3 seperate occassions (none when I was in a hand with him) who grabbed 20 chips, cut 8 for a call and then called "time", then decided to raise. I asked the dealer about this after one of the hands, and the dealer and players insisted that it wasn't a string raise because he had the chips in his hand. My argument is that it's not one motion and is the clear definition of a string raise. Your thoughts? -kc [link]/ Block Lists, Favorites, and more - [link]

Annoying English mistakes...

Does it annoy anyone else on this newsgroup when people constantly say: 'should I of called?' when the proper use of the language is 'should I have called?'. Another nit picky thing is: 'Your right' instead of 'You're right'. Forgive me for being anal, but I actually learned the English language. Actually, I must be so bored to post this but that's probably because the content quality of today's posts has been the worst I have ever seen.... Your Online Poker Community - [link]

Bluffing with AK
Classic poker situation: you come in for a 4BB raise with AK in a NL game get two callers, you miss the flop and are first to act. You bet the pot anyway, get one caller and now the turn comes up, appearing to be a blank. What do you do here? (I know it depends but any ideas players have on this situation would be appreciated). Also, if you are reraised when you bet with AK on the flop when you missed it, do you always let it go? I am an extremely aggressive player who if he raises virtually never fails to also bet on the flop, and I find other players get tired of this and try to play back. I don't want them to feel that they can get off so easy with this play though. I mean I make most of my money bluffing on the flop so if the players see I will just release my hand it might take me out of the lead in a lot of hands, and I don't want to start fearing the other players, I want them to fear me. I should keep records but I think the players are starting to catch on to my play and although I doubt its a -ev play because of how I get paid off on my big hands I think I could somehow get away from some of these hands. I guess I should throw in some checks on some of the flops I missed but when I see a twenty or thirty dollar pot just sitting there I hate to let someone else take it from me. i was thinking if I had an inside straight draw or better I would set my opponent all in...but seems most of the time they are willing to go for it and of course 9/10 times I miss my draw...so I think this is a negative play besides the fear they might get of me when they see me make it. Don't know if this makes any sense but anyone have any ideas of tightening my game up a bit without making me one of these tight "robot" players? Thanks, David Posted using RecPoker.com v2.1 - [link]

Well, I'm back home. The tourney was incredible... I was literally 10 feet from the table... in fact, you'll probably see my mug all over the TV when this airs. Okay, here's a quick breakdown of the day: Head to AC around 11, get to harrah's at about 12:15. I decided to text message Aaron because I didn't want to bother him if he's talking to ESPN or whatever. He calls me back in about 5 minutes and says it's cool for me to go up and talk to him, so I went up to him room to wish him luck. He seemed relaxed, which made me confident he could move up a few pay rungs and play his game. Anyway, head back down to the ballroom area and find out that I can sit inside. A couple of very nice casino employees (one of which was John Arthur - don't remember the other's name) offered me a pass to sit in the room with the table instead of the room with the monitors. Of course, I accepted and I was seated with a few other kids who had met Aaron in AC. One, an RGPer, pointed out Krazy Kanuck to me (I think he's one of the best players online I avoid him at all costs and I told him that... lol). The players filed in a bit late ecr72: this explains the delay. Along with the players, Barry Greenstein came in a sat down right behind me. The play got underway and I was typing away on my blackberry like crazy to get updates out to my posters (thank you very much couldn't have pulled this off without you). You all pretty much know what happened during play, so I'll leave that out. I have to comment on the Chad Brown/Tran hand I HATE to second guess a poker player because all of us have made plays that we kick ourselves for, but never have I seen a hand played so poorly. I just can't understand why he would call down tran with middle pair and just give away the chip lead. Who knows, if he was right it was brilliant, but everyone I talked to said it was a very bad decision on Brown's part. I was seated next to the Frangos family very nice people by the way. Nick was a short stack all day and managed to move up in the money to 3rd, which was very impressive. He caught some breaks by picking up some decents hands at good times, but he folded QQ when E had KK and Stan had JJ not a brilliant fold by any means considering the raise by aaron, reraise, and reraise nonetheless, he maintained patience. He also stated he never picked up AA during the 3 days... just so everyone knows that you can do well in a tournament without AA. Aaron was played very well, chipping up to about 650K and clear second at one point (Tran maintained a big lead for the whole way after the Brown pot). He was then hurt by two big pots that he was forced to lay down I'll let him describe those in greater detail. Of course, soon after the fateful A5 hand came up and he was out in 5th. I can't second guess the play as he was trying to get Tran to fold. Folding to Tran's reraise would have left him pretty short and he wouldn't have been able to play his game (IMHO).We get to the dinner break with three left. I end up at the casino steakhouse (dinner was on ESPN's dime) eating dinner at the same table as Barry Greenstein, Mimi Tran, their friends and the chip leader Tran. By the way, Barry is a great guy and deserves the reputation that he has in poker. He says that he reads RGP, so hopefully he'll see this thread. I spoke to Tran about a few of the key pots that he played and he seemed to have a much better understanding of the game than he was exhibiting at the table when he was actually playing, I got the feeling that he was bit of a tuna. His commentary actually made a lot of sense and he was able to explain his actions on various pots. By the way, Nick, Erick and Jesus were all sitting at the table to my left. I spoke to Aaron during the dinner break and he was in good shape. He knows not to second guess his actions just realize that he had a fantastic showing for a lot of dough and he will have more opportunities. I expect to see him back at a big event final table in the near future. He was very appreciative of the support from RGP and he'll be posting as soon as he's home. After the break, the crazy hand between Frangos and Erick happens (AK v AQ, suckout, resuck) it was probably only the 2nd hand. Just like that, we were heads up. After Tran takes a superaggressive posture for the first 5 hands or so, the chips counts had gone from even to about a 200K difference. You all know what the last hand was... by the way, this is what Erick said when Tran pushed: "REALLY?"..."want to gamble?"..."okay, I call". When the words "I call" came out of his mouth, Tran looked scared shitless, but the river gave him his 7 high straight and it was over. I spoke to Erick afterwards and he said it was an easy decision. He thanked the cheering section (we switched to him after Aaron went out) and I left. All in all, a fantastic experience. Congrats to Gamble (aka Aaron). I had a great time doing this for RGP and I hope to do it again soon. Nat Arem

Here is the first update from 'natarem' on the scene in AC. Anyway, just got to harrah's. Talked to Gamble for a couple of minutes... Seems relaxed and ready to go. Final table starts at two. I'm going to be watching on monitors from a room in the next ballroom over. The room is pretty empty now, but the security and event staff are running around like crazy. I'm going to be updating key hands as best as I can. Hopefully it will be a long afternoon for all of us. By the way, just found out that I can sit inside... Sweet. Update to come later. looking for a better newsgroup-reader? - www.recgroups.com
