Last night in a 2-5 blind NL Hold'em game at the Aladdin the following situation came up and I would love to hear thoughts on the ruling, which I believe is unfair: 4 players in the hand on a flop of K65 - I am in the cut off with QQ andit is checked around to me and I check to the button, who was the Pre-flop re- raiser. Before he can act on his hand, the dealer assumes it has checked around and proceeds to burn and place the turn card on the board, which of course was a Q. After the button explains he had not acted I call for a decision, and this was the decision that was given: The dealer will next burn and turn the river card, then shuffle the Q back in to the remaining deck and place the turn card up last with no burn. Now I have been in this exact same situation in the past and the ruling that was given then was that the Q would be shuffled back in and then the hand would proceed with the turn then river as normal. This to me seems to make sense as I believe that the exposed Q has to have an opportunity to come out on the turn, so I was surprised to hear this ruling and obviously not happy about a dealer error costing me a huge pot (the Q makes me a set against the button's AK) The explanation and reasoning that was offered by the floorman was that the next card out must be the river card because or the order of the cards is changed. But as far as I am concerned, as I am going to have to face a big bet on the next card in NL, all cards that are live must have an opportunity to come out as the next card on the board. Does anyone have any opinions on this ruling, or witnessed a similar situation themselves? I've been trying, through simulations and actual play, to find optimal strategies for beating $1-2 7-stud games with $.25 antes. (Hereafter, $1-2/.25) I haven't had much luck so far so I'm going to suggest two strategies and ask for your opinions on which might work better. If you've never played $1-2/.25, the problem is simple. Many hands have 3-5 players going to 5th street. You can't beat a table full of calling stations unless you get good cards, but with an ante this high you can't afford to wait for good cards. My current strategy, which is to follow S&M's 21st Century 7SFAP loose games guidelines, isn't working. I suspect their guidelines weren't designed for games with such a high ante. (In a nutshell, they recommend rarely raising until 4th or 5th street and limping in on 3rd with as little as a live 2-flush and one overcard.) Maybe their guidelines would beat this game in the long run, but I don't want to lose hundreds of dollars finding out that they don't. They haven't worked in the short run, that's for sure. Here are two strategies I haven't dared try yet. Which do you think is more likely to work? #1: Play the Odds I've spent a lot of hours with Excel building tables for the odds of completing your hand if you have X live outs with Y unknown cards left, for all streets. (Example: With a 3-flush on 4th street, odds of hitting your flush if only 7 live cards remain out of 37 unknown cards.) I've been condensing these tables into pot odds charts that I can have in front of me while I play (online, obviously). So one strategy is to track the unknown cards and live outs remaining at all times, glance down to the charts, and call if I've got the odds and fold if I don't. Problem: what to stay with on 3rd street? The "play the odds" approach encourages going for a lot of longshots, which you'll usually miss. Downside: A bad run of cards could cost you hundreds of dollars. You could easily miss 30 or 40 longshots in a row. Upside: Every pot you do win should be huge. #2: Fire Away Forget the odds charts and the longshots. Play very tightly on 3rd street, in accordance to West/Adams guidelines. However, understand that if you're in on 3rd street, you're going all the way to the end (unless someone's board has you hopelessly beaten), and you're RAISING EVERY CHANCE YOU GET. Downsides: Antes are going to eat away at your stack between good hands. You will lose TONS of money when someone has you beaten the whole way, or outdraws you on the end. Upside: $1-2/.25 players are generally passive enough that relentless re-raising should knock out anyone who doesn't have a real hand, so you'll probably be heads-up by fifth street most of the time (at which point you could slow down, I suppose). By then, you'll be getting proper odds to chase even if you're behind (but that'll be true for your opponent, too). Potential downside: the other players may decide to fight back and stay for four bets the whole way, building absolutely gigantic pots, most of which you'll lose. So which strategy would work better, you think? "Play the Odds" or "Fire Away"? Either way, it seems you need a far larger bankroll to play stud than hold'em...

OK, so tons of affiliates are offering all kinds of things if you sign up on a website with them... People are offering 50 free dollars, Poker chips, poker books, etc. What would be the most ideal, and reasonable offer that you would want as a player? My opinion is the money with a little extra incentive likek a party poker hat would be the best. What do you guys think? Ok, in yesterday's RGP tourney on FT I have GambleAB to my immediate left. Second or third hand I get dealt an Arlo (offsuit). AB raises, and I type in "easy now, I have an Arlo" and I call his raise. Flop comes 359 (I don't remember the suits). AB types in "open ended" and bets the pot. I call. Turn is a 2. I don't remember the exact course of betting, but AB put it all in (with top pair) and I called. I guess he thought I was lying??? RecGroups : the community-oriented newsreader : www.recgroups.com
