Scammed at PokerStarsThis is a discussion thread · 63 replies Dave L: I do feel a little stupid, but player Marie1940 took me for a bit of cash last week. She pretended to be a friend of mine in need of a loan, and I fell for it. (At the time I was in the middle of a Final Table at a Stud 8/b tournament and playing headsup at the end of of a 2-table hold-em sit n go.. .I was a little distracted.)If anyone knows who this person is, I would appreciate any background info. PokerStars seems to think that Banning his/her chat is punishment enough. They also dont feel that it warrants an account freeze, or further investigations (when I made the loan I commented that it was to be paid by Monday in the pokerstars optional notes for support box). Why was her chat revoked? For trying the same scam on other players. But, as long as Marie1940 is spending money on the site (that is not hers), why bother to suspend her or freeze the funds? I am a lot perturbed at myself, and a little perturbed at PokerStars for doing nothing more than revoking a chat. It makes me wonder how serious they really are about protecting players and overall security. So, if anyone knows this player, would appreciate any information they can give me. And to PokerStars: Thanks for your support in this matter. Glad to see that someone who has been warned about this in the past and had complaints against her before me (admitted by support) is still allowed to play on your site. -Dave ** Anonymous RGP ACCESS at http://www.liveactionpoker.com ** $100 Deposit Bonus at http://www.FabulousPoker.com

Dave L: It was just $100 (they asked for more, but thankfully while I was stupid, I wasn't THAT stupid). I've lost far more than that amount on single hands, but it's more the principle and the fact that this person has done it before (and the fact they they will be able to do it again)that pisses me off.** Anonymous RGP ACCESS at http://www.liveactionpoker.com ** $100 Deposit Bonus at http://www.FabulousPoker.com

Raider Fan: I was at a $10 S&G last night and someone named cutegirl asked one of the guys for another $11 since she was tapped. I told "her" that she was probably a guy. By the way Dave, how about a loan? We went to high school together...[nq:1]I do feel a little stupid, but player Marie1940 took me for a bit of cash last week. Dave L: [nq:1]And how did she convince you she was a friend of yours??[/nq]She must have heard a conversation I had with my friend, and knew enough about our realtionship to trick me into it. I realized not long afterwords that I had a few warning signs and convienently filled in the blanks for her. (The person she pretended to be was in fact out of funds, and was, in fact, intending to replenish her account on Monday, among other things.) She claimed the name change was to avoid certain players, and my friend was having some issues with some players... It did take me about 20-30 minutes to decide to lend her the money. I should have just told her to email me to confirm her id, but as I said..I was distracted by the games, and wasn't fully thinking at the time (I am sure s/he realized this, too). If I were paying more attention, I would have realized it. They got me at a good time. ** Anonymous RGP ACCESS at http://www.liveactionpoker.com ** $100 Deposit Bonus at http://www.FabulousPoker.com

And you want US to give YOU info on her?...She asked you and you gave her the money,,she did not steal it..you willingly gave it to her..how is this pokerstars fault?? You did something stupid and you want to pass the blame? You gave money to a complete(friend?) stranger online and then whine about pokerstars? Happens on other sites too..hmmm someone with a cutsie sounding female name chats up a table and asks if anyone can loan them some money..whos the sucker at your table???** Anonymous RGP ACCESS at http://www.liveactionpoker.com ** $100 Deposit Bonus at http://www.FabulousPoker.com
