Everyone wants to win a huge pot every time, Fell. You can't just win the blinds and antes and be happy I guess..
Picking up blinds and antes is just as important.
[nq:1]1st, I agree that 4xBB is probably comitting too many chips if there is a pair out there. 3xBB is ... mistake IMO. Fell Read, Post, and Reply to RGP Posts at http://liveactionpoker.com Watch Streaming Poker TV now at: http://pokerupdates.com [/nq]

I already made reference to it, but there's a fundamental difference in my experiences than likely most of those arguing this post.

Pokerroom doesn't use antes.
So I'm used to only having blind money, in which case the min raise only gives the BB 5:2 odds if no one is in.
With antes, you almost certianly have to go up beyond the min. (Matt said
2.5x was fine, and I'm still inclined to believe him first and foremost)

But again, it's not a matter of "win a big pot," it's a matter of "invest as little as possible to accomplish your goal."

Thanks for clarifying Smurf.
I am very used to the structures that are used at Party, Stars, and even the WSOP/WPT. They all have antes, and I naturally assume that there are antes in the pot and thus you cannot make a min raise. In a strictly blinds-only game, I agree that a 2x BB raise would often be enough.

If Party has antes, I don't know what level they start at. I've won a few multi's there and never saw antes.

And it's the afforementioned jackasses that end up chasing the better posters off.

I want to win the blinds and move on, so I am in for a good raise. you dont want the guy with enough chips to bust you up coming over top of you with 66. You want him to lay it down and let you take the blinds. Personally I do not like inviting people to coin flips, when you give someone incentive to fold you give yourself higher chances of winning the hand.
[nq:2]Hell..I'll elaborate..first, the BB almost has to call with any ... simply isn't enough. This isn't the WSOP. It's the internet.[/nq]
[nq:1]Just to pick nits, why exactly is having these hands in there a bad thing? The only way they present ... big pairs). Yes, you'll occasionally get the guy with AQ trapped, but you're gonna get him with either raise.[/nq]
