This is a factThis is a discussion thread · 57 replies Milton Green: I play blackjack and craps, and typically buy in for $2000 for each sessoin. I play $100 a hand at blackjack, and at craps I play $25 on the line with double odds, and keep 2 come bets working with double odds. I play perfect basic strategy at blackjack, multi deck shoe games. It is much easier to double my money playing blackjack than by playing craps and much easier to lose my entire 2K playing craps. Therefore, I am no longer playing craps.

alan: Okay, so youve had bad luck playing craps. But maybe its your come system. While come betting is viewed as a valid strategy, I think it has too many pitfalls. The first is that your numbers have to hit "twice" in order for you to win. the second is that the first two come bets might go on numbers that are hard to repeat such as the 4 and 10. A more conservative approach is to play the passline, place odds depending on the number that is hit, and place inside numbers. Place bets and odds can always be taken down if you get the "feel." Ive seen come bettors get their two come bets with odds up on numbers that are never repeated while the roll continues for twenty minutes on every other number. that's a lousy place to be.

Mr. V: Milton Green:Yeah, you made the right call. Sounds like you understand blackjack, but are abjectly clueless about craps. Avoid it. roll dem bones

Milton Green: Obviously I've experienced sessions like you describe. However, place bets are as a greater disadvantage than a come bets with odds. Place or come, you are putting bet after bet after bet on the table at a disadvantage which eats you up.

The problem is in the total bet handle per hour...you are playing $225 per hand at craps, and just a $100 a hand on BJ (plus double downs and splits). Depending on the number of players at both games, you are more than likely risking twice the money on the craps table than the BJ table. Volatlity comes into play at a higher rate with the craps thing..but it cuts both ways..higher losses, higher wins! But nothing wrong with your choice to go with the game you have had better experience with! JB

Anonymous: If you are haveing luck with BJ, hang in there. But luck often visits the craps table. At your level of play. You could kick some butt if the right hand showed. Craps and BJ,are about 6 of one and a half dozen of the other.Unless you have an edge. And we want even go there! What you read in the craps bibles ain't necessarily so. Pass and come bets are just one route. If you are playing perfect bacic stradgy at BJ, I'm sure IT took a little practice and study. Give craps the same chance. And you may be suprised. In craps you can bet do or don't. Not an option in BJ. Not a hell of an advantage in craps. But it's there. Rex

Bob R: [nq:1]Actually, playing double odds at craps should fair just a "tad" better than your BJ play...[/nq]How do you figure that? The HA at blackjack is probably .5% at the most, while he's paying 1.4% per decision on $75. It does sound like he has more than twice as much money at risk at craps, though, which will greatly increase his chances of busting out. Milton, do you have a feel for which action gets you the best comps?

alan: I dont think this player kept track of what his "come bet" numbers were, but that would interest me? Are his come bet going to inside or outside numbers? If going to the outside numbers that would make it tougher for him to gain winners.HA on outside numbers (total bet) is larger even if HA on the odds alone have no HA.
