You gotta know when to Holdem, Know when to Foldem. This is a discussion thread · 697 replies CincinnatiKid: Lets face it..any jackass can play flopped sets, flushes, 2 pair, and boats. Knowing when to FOLD seperates the men from the boys. It seperates the the people making money from the people losing money. Pot odds/configurations and reads on opponents are good too(maybe not as much online) but FOLDING saves/makes you the most money. CincinnatiKid: Just sick and tired of the lack of creativity on everyones part. It's quite sad in my opinion. Rough weekend? Yes, I had a rough weekend.[nq:2]Lets face it..any jackass can play flopped sets, flushes, 2 pair, ... we have no confidence? No character? Folding an overpair pair on the flop may save u 2 BB. Betting 99 all the way on a board of Qd3s5d3h8c is how u make the money. [nq:1]Whatever happened to the self made player? You should learn as much as u can about all endeavors before beginning them. Do you want your doctor to be self learned or would u prefer that he read a book by top heart surgeons before operating on you? RecGroups : the community-oriented newsreader : www.recgroups.com

Aaron: [nq:1]Lets face it..any jackass can play flopped sets, flushes, 2 pair, and boats.[/nq]That's not true. You must have missed the post I made a while back when I mentioned that my wife was playing one time, flopped quad tens, and a guy made quad kings on the river. For no reason that I can imagine, he checked the river behind her, last to act, and elected just to show them down (she had checked with the intention of trapping, but was happy when he checked it down behind her). There was no straight flush possible and - hey - even if there was, WHO THE *** would check that hand on the river from last position? [nq:1]Knowing when to FOLD seperates the men from the boys.[/nq] I can agree with that statement. Most people have no idea how or when to fold. [nq:1]It seperates the the people making money from the people losing money. Pot odds/configurations and reads on opponents are good too(maybe not as much online) but FOLDING saves/makes you the most money.[/nq] I would disagree with the wording - I would say that: "Betting wins you the most money; folding keeps it from leaking back." [nq:1]K.eep I.t S.imple S.tupid until you've mastered the level that you are at. Whatever happened to the self made player?[/nq] They are all broke and on the side-lines. I broke them last week. [nq:1]Why must we read every book out there and play the other persons game to a "T?" Do we have no confidence? No character? No charisma, machismo..no balls?[/nq] I read other books to understand the concepts of poker and frequent dilemmas that you face at the table, and the thought process that one uses to make correct decisions. I don't emulate anyone's playing style to a 'T' (or even close), I adapt what I learn and incorporate what works in my strategy. RecGroups : the community-oriented newsreader : www.recgroups.com

Bolivar: Good points, Kid, but in my experience, true creativity brings the best results to those who have mastered the basics.Or, as Poor Richard observed: "Experience is a hard school, but a fool will learn in no other."
