The whole point that gambling operators forcus on is the idea that in the long-run they will eventually win. One you fully realise that, you'll learn that if you do win something (however small) the odds were agaist you to do so and you should be grateful for that fact!

Re: Gambling and discipline

Discipline is the hardest part of gambling, whatever form, whether Poker, Sportsbook, Casino etc etc. It's lack of discipline that creates problems for people and their fun can turn into an addiction.

My advice to anyone looking to have a gamble is to recognise how much they are comfortably able to lose and then set a goal which is they achieve will be the stopping point for the session. If the money is lost then they should NOT go back and deposit more. Try to look at gambling as a recreational activity and to convince yourself that if you lose, it's ok, it's money you can afford to lose anyway.

Re: Gambling and discipline

I know the feeling too well. It's difficult to know when to stop. My best advice is to either impose a betting limit or a betting target and make a diary of your profit and loss so you can keep track of how much you are spending. Also, try to be selctive if you are sports betting.

Hope that helps.

Re: Gambling and discipline

Hi,

This info is taken from the www.gamcare.co.uk site. It is great advice on responsible gaming.

You’re buying fun, not investing your money
Before playing, set strict limits on how much time and money you’re going to spend
Quit while you’re ahead
Only gamble with money you can afford to lose
Don’t spend more money on gambling with the hope to win back money that you have lost
Keep up other interests and hobbies – don’t let gambling take over your life
Don’t gamble in order to escape from stress or boredom
Gambling in moderation is okay
The key is… if you choose to gamble, gamble responsibly!
Hope that helps!

Gambling and discipline

Why do most (me incuded) find it difficult to stop gambling when I'm winning?
